Trimming goat hooves

I had it all planned out for you... I was going to show you exactly what the process is like ..

I had a very willing participant. She is very familiar with the goat stand.

We (Marrissa and I) spent about two years with this stand. Milking. Everyday. Everyday for two years. And then I realized (for me) that milking and a full time job and a house and a marriage and acreage and spending time with grandchildren didn't work. Something had to give.

So I dried her up. No more goats milk.
Goats milk which is healthy and wonderful..Alas...

But back to the trimming....

I had planned on showing you the whole process of hoof trimming. From getting the goats to getting them to the stand to showing you the before, during and after shots.

But I soon realized that I needed at least 8 arms to do this. And for some reason, I was only born with two. Even with Mickeys help, I was unable to do what I wanted with pictures.

Except here is before..Notice the overgrown hoof. .Please I am not a bad goat Mom...I just don't have a ton of time and worst of all, the energy...

And here is after...Much better...

Now if your goat has a rocky surface to climb on, your goat may not need to have their hooves trimmed as often as mine. This goat is easy to trim. Jumps right up and puts her head where she is supposed to and doesn't give me a hard time. Like I said, she is familiar with the stand and doesn't mind. She knows she is going to have special food. Now the others...Not so easy. They jerk and fight me and kick their legs, etc. It is not easy.
But with the help of Mickey, we did the job. Even the angoras that have to be laid over on their side and held still....Its a job but necessary and you have a feeling of accomplishment when completed. And you know that they feel much better.
Now if I could just have one personal assistant in my life, I would have it made. You know, someone to take the pictures when I am unable, and to take out the garbage, and install electronics. It would be grand. Then I could just cook and play.
What would you wish for?
Tell me.

On the mend

I went home from work Friday and slept. I slept until 10 am Saturday and back to sleep about 2. I didn't get up until my Mom called me that evening. I then decided it was time to come to life and get busy. So we cooked.

I put a couple of eggs on the stove to boil.

Fried up some bacon.

And baked some potatoes...

Seasoned some steaks that had been marinating in lime juice and beer.

Bob was glad I was up and about because he had been sleeping right alongside me the whole time and was ready to be doing something. Which consisted of moving from the couch to the kitchen.

So we made up a mess of crawdads...

Transformed some potatoes from this...

To this.......Yummy!!

Put some salads together..

Used the eggs in the salad...

And Mickey grilled the steaks.....and

they were perfect...

and so delicious and tender and .....well.......

quite spectacular tasting....The lime juice and beer did the job.

It felt wonderful to be up and living again on Peebly Road. Even if dinner was about midnight.

Got into some goat business Sunday..Will blog about that tomorrow.

What did you do this weekend?

Tell me.

Staying home this weekend

This is where I will be this weekend.

I woke up with a fever night before last and have not been myself since.

Some swollen glands to top it all off....

I wont be feeling like playing many toy games with Bob and Marley..

They will just have to understand.
Ok..back to the chicken soup and orange juice...And yes I am at work today. But I only have 1 and a half hours to go then Im going to my home.
And there I will rest and get back to normal...whatever that is..

Mickeys favorite meal at home

Start with potatoes that you peel and quarter. Put them on to boil.

Next.. Some nice pork chops. Not tenderloin chops but these with the marbling in them.

Next, a can of spinach.

Brown some cut up bacon in a pan..

Maybe 4 or 5 slices cut into small pieces. Then add a couple of tablespoons of flour to the grease when the bacon is just about done. Cook until your flour browns.

Then take that can of spinach and drain the liquid into a measuring cup and put the spinach in with the bacon. However much liquid is in the measuring cup, take half of the amount and add water and the other half of that amount should be vinegar. Mix about 3 or 4 tablespoons of sugar and a couple of tablespoons of flour and mix it all together and stir it ALL up in your pan. Clear as mud? Then add salt and pepper to taste and possibly more sugar if its not quite sweet enough. Add all together in the pan and stir and cook on med low..Stirring frequently.

Next...Dip your chops in egg batter and then flour and fry. I use canola oil in the pan for frying. Plenty of it too.

Keep your eye on your potatoes and when they are cooked, drain the water and put the lid back on the pan and set them aside for a few minutes.

I want to add right now that this meal is off the charts in calories. I'm sure of it....

If your with me and don't really care about that, lets go on now..

After the chops are cooked to perfection, with a crispy coat, put them on a plate..Then take your potatoes and put them right into that pan the chops came out of. Brown them and turn and brown them again.

Keep stirring the spinach as you go along.

Now take a chop and put it on your plate. Then some potatoes..Then take your fork and mash the potatoes up a bit.

Then take butter and put that on the mashed hot potatoes..

Butter is the best...

Now take some sour cream and layer that on top of the buttered potatoes..Trust me on this..Do it...

Then..take your plate to the stove and on top of the sour cream layer, you will put your spinach..

Please pile it on, don't hold back..You wont regret it...

What about me???

Oh yes. My love...My horseradish..How could I forget???

Put some horseradish on the side of your chop for dipping..It adds the final touch to this meal...Omit it if its just not to your liking...If you have not tried horseradish yet, please do.

Your plate will look something like this....

Your belly will be happy.

Ive had this meal my whole life. Ive made my own variation by adding the sour cream.

Try it and let me know how you like it..

If loving you is wrong

Is it wrong of me to still have the lights on this tree?

Why havent I packed these lights away with all the other Christmas decor?

Maybe I can just leave it like this all year.
I just cant make myself pull the plug.
I just cant.
I need an intervention.

The many faces of Bob

This is his face when he found me......He was lost....Probably for a long time. I had to cut burrs from his hair. He had ticks all over....He looks so lost and forlorn here ....

And he was really young.

Time went on. He became one of the greatest joys ever.

I have taken approximately 17 million pictures of Bob.

From every angle imaginable..

Sometimes he looks away.

Other times he lets me do whatever..

He knows how handsome he is.

Even his ears are beautiful.

Some of the pictures are just plain strange.

Others are sweet and adorable...

He has been a delight.
