Digging a footing

Bob and I went along with Mickey last weekend while he did a footing.  If you have had a house built you will be familiar with this process.  Its breaking ground.  Its the beginning of the foundation.  Its whats makes your house withstand the tests of time....and all that..
Anyway..this is how it all begins..
The concrete guy goes to the location and lays out the outline of the house.
Then Mickey goes to said location and unloads the trackhoe.  We have two machines.  One smaller than this for those *hard to get to places*.  For example, if you have job that would perhaps require your entire septic system be replaced, and you lived in a neighborhood with fencing etc, he could come through the gate instead of tearing down the fence.  Pretty cool..
The first scoop.   Being careful to keep a straight line is very important!!!
And all this has to be done without loosing track of the painted lines or messing them up with the machine as you are working...
And get this.   You have to dig the footing 18 inches deep.  Not 15, not 20, but 18!  How hard would that be?  For me?  Impossible..But Mickey does it and he does this alone.
 Bucket after bucket of dirt....
Mickey is the best, I have to say..
This dog across the street was very interested in what was going on.  Not so much about the dirt work but Bob was there..

What made the job so difficult was it was windy and it was dry!  The dirt was blowing everywhere...our hair, our eyes...

 Close your eyes Bob!!!!

This is just one of the things that Mickey does on a daily basis.  He takes care of us.  Its hard work,  sometimes long hours and miserable conditions.   But its what he does and Im proud of him for it.

In honor of Veterans

My Dad..Front & center kneeling...
Thank you....

Thank you Uncle Frank....

We had a visit today from my co-workers husband.  He is dressed in a WWI dough boy uniform..He had been to a Veterans day memorial service.  I didn't have my camera with me, but we do have our office camera, so we snapped a few photos of him.
This uniform is made of wool.  Its not that cold here today and he was, lets say, a tad uncomfortable.  We recognized just one small discomfort that a soldier had to endure.  There were/are many.  So this day we all need to take a moment and honor those who served for us..

I think these pictures turned out pretty good ...
And he was a good sport to pose..

Today is also my grandmothers 91st birthday....

Love you Nanny!!!!  Your the best...I hope you are having the best day ever..!

Bob wanted to talk about going along this past weekend to do a job with *dad* but that will have to wait until tomorrow..

What did you do today?

Tell me.

Putting up the peppers

Picked another round of peppers over the weekend.  They are still growing like crazy and will more than likely have more.. I decided to clean these up and freeze them for use over the winter..

Doing them with the foodsaver is very easy...
It compacts them all just like this..

I bought this at yard sale over the summer for 25 cents..Not the foodsaver but this sheep.
 Its made of metal.
Sheep metal!!
Ok.  Here is another yard sale find.  Its also made of metal and I have it hanging in the kitchen.  I have no idea what is written on this.  Some kind of Latin?  Could someone translate please?

Then Bob wants to tell you tomorrow about going along on a job this weekend...

New camera discovery

This is what I have to look forward to this weekend.  Stacking this..Maybe...See, I hurt my back last night.  I turned on my chair here at work yesterday and felt a *twinge*.  Then last evening I cleaned my house and vacuumed and then brought in a plant that was too heavy for one person to carry..and then also a load of this wood because I had the stove going.
Trying to get out of bed this morning was not fun..getting dressed was even more difficult.  Now I'm sitting at my desk with a heating pad against my lower back..I'm struggling..
Anyway..I wanted to show you an option that I discovered on my camera.  I have yet to read the manual for my camera.  I just learn as I go..and I'm slow...but anyway..I can shoot in

sephia...(not sure of spelling)

black and white........................................

here is warm

versus sephia....

cool versus

I'm going to try to learn one new thing per week...I will share..

Which do you prefer?

Tell me..

Job benefits

I get my fair share of complaints from people that come into our office.  Sometimes its because the rates have increased and sometimes its because they want to let me know how they feel about insurance in general.  At times, it can make the job a tad difficult.  But then there are days that people will thank you for being there.  They will, at times, thank you for recommending they take out certain coverages.  Ive had many of my people actually tell me they love me.  I'm not bragging, I'm just saying that I don't typically tell my butcher, or my dentist or my doctor that I love them.  But *my people* will tell me they do.  Just as I do them also...This is one of the benefits of my job.  Another benefit of my job is I also get to meet many fur folks also!!!!

This is midget and her human parents...

I am totally in love with Midget and her ears...And I'm not afraid to say it either!!

I love you!!

Do you LOVE your job?  If you are retired now, did you love your job?

Tell me.

While we sleep

Our woods come alive!!!

I have proof.....

Better here than in the chicken house I always say....

Someone said that the deer would love alfalfa bales with molasses poured into it...They sniffed but did not like it.  The bales remain untouched..
They really just love the corn..

They keep coming back night after night.  Lots of activity..

Lots of characters.....all while we sleep.....

Halloween 2010

Bob and I went over to see what the grand ones had up their sleeves for Halloween....

I just couldn't get this goblin to slow down and talk to me!!!!

Bob thought it was very peculiar!!!!

We did see this lovely lady...
With extra lovely eyes!!

Oh no!! Watch out little bunny!!!

She loved getting into her "character"....

I discovered some interesting things about my camera this weekend.  I will share some of the photos this week with you.

How was your Halloween?
